Wuthering Heights

A first time in Paris is an unforgettable experience. The Wombat really fell silent for a second when seeing the giant Eiffel Tower for the first time...

Wow! Look at that construction, The Wombat thought. You don't want to be in charge of taking care of all the rust...

Almost 900 feet above the ground, The Wombat felt a little bit dizzy. "I'm so dizzy, my head is spinning", The Wombat sang in order to carry away the nasty thought of being so high above sealevel. When The Wombat felt comfortable enough, time had come to strike a pose...

Overwhelmed by The Wombat's incredible amount of cuteness, two American girls wanted to take a picture with our cudly marsupial. The Wombat has the ability to attract new fans, even on wuthering heights...

But after half an hour it was time to descend... The Wombat was glad to feel the ground beneath its paws...

Down by the Seaside

Strolling along the beach on a beautiful november day, feeling the wind in your fur. Dreaming of all the things beyond the horizon.

Oh, and the waves are comming in. And the waves are going out.

What a lovely afternoon!

Hello Possums!

Although our furry friend was just a tiny little Wombat when leavinig it's native Australia, sometimes The Wombat gets a bit homesick. It always helps doing or watching something Australian.

Last weekend, The Wombat was in dire need of some Australian Mega Stardom. So bring out the Dame Edna dvd's!!!! "Hello Possums!!!"

Slovensko: chladnĂ˝!!!

A few weeks ago, The Wombat went to Slovakia. Exploring East Europe was on The Wombat's to do list for a very long time. Fortunately, The Wombat found the right form of transportation.

Upon arriving, The Wombat first took some good Slovakian beer...

Slovakian girls are pretty and The Wombat felt very comfortable in the arms of a Slovakian belle.

Slovakian laws are strict and harsh, so after the amorous encounter with the pretty damsel, The Wombat got arrested and chained to a concrete pilar.

The Wombat's punishment was battling a giant bear. With such sharp claws it is hard to remain unharmed... (this goes for the bear of course).

After the fight, that left the bear dead on the ground, The Wombat got hungry and ate a deer (not really of course...) and afterwards, The Wombat victoriously relaxed on its antlers...

The trip was about to come to an end, but not before The Wombat mingled some more with the locals...

Sayonara Sushi

When you have something to celebrate, what is better than a ten course Japanese dinner with your best friends! So that is exactly what The Wombat did in honour of Wombat Day 2007. Wonderful sushi, delicious lobster, perfectly grilled salmon, mouth-watering yakatori. Mmmm! And to finish this feast, a big portion of black sesame icecream: Heaven!!!
Yes, Wombat, after all this you really need to sit back for a while with a nice cup of japanese green tea!

Sail You Home

Do you remember your dreams? The Wombat does!

Last night, The Womwat was dreaming it was sailing a big 17th century ship.

Climbing in robes and tying knots, it is hard work.

Thank goodness our friend has perfect sea legs!

Sail away, Wombat....
... and dream a little dream of me.

From Russia with Love

Look what The Wombat found: another picture from its Trans Siberia Travels! On the Red Square in Moscow, our Furry Traveller took a moment to take in all the wonderful colours of St Basil's Cathedral. "Candy, Candy, Candy", The Wombat started singing softly to itself.

A Trick a Day: Day One

It's been a while since the last post, but The wombat has been travelling to Slovakia. Hopefully you'll see more about that soon!

Meanwhile our favourite antipodian has made a new friend! After meeting at a mutual friend, Der Elefant and The Wombat discovered they shared their passion for acrobatics. And you know what they say: "A trick a day keeps the Doctor away"!

The Wombat: World Traveller

Last month, The Wombat went on a long trip on the Trans Siberia Express: from Moscow all the way to Beijing!! Naturally in Moscow the famous Red Square was visited and The Wombat curiously studied every detail, from the Kremlin to Saint Basil's Cathedral and the Lenin's Tomb.

From there it was by train through the heart of Russia. The Russian countryside was beautiful, but after a few days not all that inspiring. That changed when our little traveller arrived in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator. The Wombat was delighted with the warm welcome of the local population, especially on the little expedition through the vast and spectacular plains around Ulan Bator. It was also very nice to stretch its little legs after all those days on the train.

Then, after a minor hold up at the Chinese/Mongolian border, on to the last stop: Beijing. An overwhelming experience, The Wombat thought. The Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Tiananmen Square with Mao's Tomb. And of course a visit to the Great Wall!

Crossing half the Asian continent: an exhausting but a trip worthwhile!

Comic Time!

Today The Wombat went to sniff up culture at the Amsterdam Uitmarkt: a festive start of the new cultural and theatrical season. Being a huge comic fan (yet another facet of the wondrous personality of The Wombat you did not know about), our fury friend met a real comic artist! Floor de Goede (simply known as ' Flo') loved to have his picture taken with The Wombat, especially after he realized Tori Amos was a personal friend of The Wombat. For more info about Flo (even if you cannot read Dutch it is worth a visit) click here, since Flo's style definitely matches The Wombat's cuteness.

Home Sweet Home!

At last The Wombat arrived back home! After crossing the dark backlands of Russia, the vast planes of Mongolia and the mysterious regions of China, The Wombat returned to its little country by the sea.

You'll have to wait a little bit more for all the wonderful adventures, though. First our furry friend needs a whole lot of sleep. Covering such a great distance is exhausting when you have such short legs!

It's Oh So Quiet

Between all the travelling The Wombat also takes time to relax. Like in this peaceful cloister garden in the city of Utrecht. In this tranquil rest The Wombat quietly pondered about all its plans and dreams, the state of the world and the meaning of life in general.

It's a World of Art

The extremely cultural creature The Wombat is, a visit to the famous Tate Modern Museum was simply inevitable while in London. Arriving there, The Wombat was impressed with the building, a former power station, and got more and more curious what it had to offer on the inside.

Inside The Wombat feisted its eyes on all the great art: Picasso, Mondriaan, Rothko, Dali, Bacon, Wharhol! It was al there. But the building itself was also a highlight, especially the BIG Turbine Hall!

Outside again The Wombat sat down for a little while, looking out over the Thames. "What a wonderful city," The Wombat thought, before walking along the Milennium Bridge to St. Pauls Cathedral, its head filled with beautiful images.

High on a Tower

To keep you lot occupied (because you have probably finished reading the new Harry Potter book by now), here are some more snapshots of The Wombat in London...

The Wombat went on the Tower Bridge. 'My, my, what a view,' the Wombat cheered excitedly while it was looking at the huge bridge from a distance, overlooking the river Thames.

When The Wombat was inside and up the bridge the view was breathtaking.

The Wombat's excursion ended in the engine room. Look at all those gears and steel! When no-one was watching, The Wombat sneaked outside the row of tourists to examine the technics...
