It's a World of Art

The extremely cultural creature The Wombat is, a visit to the famous Tate Modern Museum was simply inevitable while in London. Arriving there, The Wombat was impressed with the building, a former power station, and got more and more curious what it had to offer on the inside.

Inside The Wombat feisted its eyes on all the great art: Picasso, Mondriaan, Rothko, Dali, Bacon, Wharhol! It was al there. But the building itself was also a highlight, especially the BIG Turbine Hall!

Outside again The Wombat sat down for a little while, looking out over the Thames. "What a wonderful city," The Wombat thought, before walking along the Milennium Bridge to St. Pauls Cathedral, its head filled with beautiful images.

High on a Tower

To keep you lot occupied (because you have probably finished reading the new Harry Potter book by now), here are some more snapshots of The Wombat in London...

The Wombat went on the Tower Bridge. 'My, my, what a view,' the Wombat cheered excitedly while it was looking at the huge bridge from a distance, overlooking the river Thames.

When The Wombat was inside and up the bridge the view was breathtaking.

The Wombat's excursion ended in the engine room. Look at all those gears and steel! When no-one was watching, The Wombat sneaked outside the row of tourists to examine the technics...

Riding the Technicolor Cow

Being on a three week trip to Russia, Mongolia and China, The Wombat made sure the fans won't be disappointed or bored during its absence.

After having picked up a copy of the new Harry Potter book (which The Wombat is planning to read during the long train rides), The Wombat provided a plethora of photos to keep us occupied in the following three weeks.

Like this one, in which The Wombat demonstrates its skills as a cow-wombat. 'Look at all those colors,' The Wombat thought: 'this ain't no ordinary piece of cattle!' Still bedazzled by the technicolor appearance of the cow, The Wombat managed to tame the animal and ride on its back! Without a lasso!!!

Bon Voyage, Wombat!

After some daytrips in the country and the little citytrips to Rome and London, The Wombat is ready for some serious travelling. Tomorrow our brave Adventurer will be flying to Moskow to take the Trans Siberia Express! All the way to China!!! The last few days, The Wombat studied everyting Oriental it could lay its paws on...

... and visited the Chinese temple in Amsterdam....

... and went to see the Giant Panda Bears at the Steve Bloom photo exhibition. Will The Wombat see these wonderfull creatures in the flesh? Or travel the plains of Mongolia? Or visit the Forbidden City? Only time will tell.

Bon Voyage, Wombat!

Close Encounters of the Squirrel Kind

To properly close its London holiday, The Wombat decided to take a sneak peek at Greenwich Village. This is where the zero meridian runs through. In order to get there The Wombat had to enter a really long and dark and scary tunnel under the river Thames.

After this nasty ordeal, The Wombat reached the Greenwich observatory and found out zero point.

While enjoying the lovely gardens around the Greenwich Obersvatory, suddenly The Wombat stood face to face with a new friend. 'That's a strange animal,' Mr. Squirrel thought. 'Take a closer look at yourself,' The Wombat thought in return (using its abilities to read the rather easy to penetrate minds of rodents).

Violently Happy

Last sunday, The Wombat was in a festive mood and went to the open air Björk concert in Amsterdam. And Hoorah! It was the first dry day that whole week! While everyone was waiting to get in, there was even some sunshine!

Because The Wombat arrived early, the little one had a great spot right in front of the stage! "How Australian of me!" The Wombat thought. Only the waiting for the concert to start...

But finally: there she was! Barefooted!! And look at the Icelandic Female Brass Band!

The Wombat was violently happy during the show, dancing along the whole time, just like Björk herself. Even thought it started to rain the moment the concert was over, The Wombat stayed excited the rest of the evening.

Dinos Galore!

In London, The Wombat had to visit the Museum of Natural History, because of all the dinosaurs they have. Look at that HUGE dino skeleton in the main hall of the museum!

The Wombat was very impressed with the displays. They even have dinos hanging in the air!

And look! There even was a model of the Stegosaurus, like the one The Wombat made at home.

Things were only getting better: around the corner The Wombat came eye to eye with a life- size moving and growling Tyrannosaurus Rex! "How Exciting!", The Wombat said, bouncing around the room.
But in spite of the presence of all these prehistoric monsters, the highlight of the museum was the discovery of a stuffed wombat in the mammals section. After all the excitement the dinosaurs caused, The Wombat got a little emotional at seeing a distant relative. The Wombat sat there for a while, lost in thoughts....

The Wombat and Tori Reunited

Last week The Wombat spend some nice days in London, mainly to see Tori Amos again. She played the Hammersmith Apollo theatre on 3 and 4 July .

The Wombat arrived a bit early on the first day to meet up with Tori again, as promised in Amsterdam. Tori was really delighted to be rejoined with The Wombat and they had a nice little chat. (Only later was discovered Tori had accidentally dyed our friends right ear with her black marker. Thank God the permanent marker was not that permanent!)
Needless to say The Wombat truely enjoyed both Tori shows in London.

Funny to see The Wombat is getting famous on its own! Our fluffy friend got recognised several times at the Tori shows, with one girl even wanting to have her picture taken with The Wombat! Will The Wombat ever be as famous as Tori or its beloved dinosaurs?

PS: Watch out for updates on more of The Wombat's London adventures in the near future!!
